Decarbonization of industry and the building sector in Thailand through the adoption of integrated net-zero and nature-positive solutions.
Decarbonizing Industries
Project Summary
The Net Zero Nature Positive Accelerator Integrated Programme (NZNPA IP) aims to tackle two major challenges:
1. The gap between current efforts and needed investments to meet climate and biodiversity goals, and the need for better coordination in addressing these crises.
2. The need for better coordination in addressing these crises.
The programme includes several country projects, with the Thailand Child Project focusing specifically on the industrial and building sectors. These sectors have high potential for decarbonization but also significant environmental impacts due to processes that rely on fossil fuels and disrupt ecosystems.
The Thailand Child Project, led by UNIDO and jointly implemented by UNIDO and UNEP
aims to bridge climate and biodiversity strategies by strengthening policies and capacity for integrating the green economy into sustainable development models, establishing a coordination platform linking decarbonization and biodiversity efforts, promoting innovative and nature-positive designs and technologies, and increasing awareness on policy integration.
Key features of the project
include developing comprehensive strategies for implementing integrated net-zero and nature-positive actions across the economy, NZNP pathways for industry and buildings, investment and technology demos, and knowledge management.
Expected outcomes are reduced GHG emissions, improved energy efficiency, adoption of renewable energy, and modernized industrial processes. The project will also enhance biodiversity by using nature-positive solutions and promoting green infrastructure and sustainable land management practices. Success depends on ambitious targets, policy alignment, collaboration, finance mobilization, and scaling up innovative solutions.
The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) under the GEF-8 funding cycle
